Lance Cpl. Jared M. Sackett, a Poyner, Texas native, was recently awarded a Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal. Sackett earned the medal while performing his duties as a night watch clerk in the Joint Operations Center for the Joint Forces Land Component Command during Operation Tomodachi in mainland Japan. Tomodachi is the name given by the Government of Japan to the U.S. humanitarian assistance and disaster relief effort there in the wake of the Great East Japan Earthquake and subsequent tsunami which struck the region March 11. Tomodachi is Japanese for “friends.” (Photo courtesy of Lance Cpl. Jared M. Sackett/Released)
