Capt. Cerre Dolby, C-130J Super Hercules aircraft commander, right, and 1st. Lt. Quinn Van Drew, first pilot, both assigned to the 36th Airlift Squadron, pilot their aircraft during Operation Christmas Drop, Dec. 15, 2017, above the Pacific Ocean near Guam. Christmas drop allows aviators with the 36th Airlift Wing to execute professional airlift through dynamic delivery airdrop with unsurveyed drop zones -- world-class airlift training that cannot be obtained virtually anywhere else in the world. The capabilities the unit employs during the missions are unique because we use a method of delivery that is suited to the region. Coast Humanitarian Air Drop (CHAD) takes the low-cost, low-altitude capability to the Pacific theatre. Together, CHAD and LCLA represent a unique Humanitarian Aid/Disaster Relief or wartime capability that enables these crews to respond rapidly anywhere in the area of responsibility.
