171127-N-QM691-556 AMAZON RIVER, Brazil (Nov. 27, 2017) A group of U.S. and Brazilian navy medical personnel respond to a 14-year-old indigenous boy aboard NAsH Soares de Meirelles on the Amazon River in Brazil, November 27. The boy had a gunshot wound in his hand. After the injury, the boy’s family had hailed NAsH Soares de Meirelles, which was passing along the river, and had used a small boat to bring him to the ship. Barlow is a member of a team of five U.S. Navy doctors who are engaging in a month-long humanitarian mission up the Amazon River.
