Lt. Gen. John Thompson, commander of the Space and Missile Systems Center, and Air Force program executive officer for space at Los Angeles Air Force Base, shakes hands with Gary Sinise during the Rose Bowl pre-show in Pasadena, Calif. Jan. 1, 2018.
The Academy Award-winning motion picture/TV actor, musician, and philanthropic veteran's advocate served as grand marshal of the 129th annual Tournament of Roses Parade. Sinise, who played Vietnam vet Lt. Dan Taylor in 1994’s “Forrest Gump,” said when he was picked that he was happy to serve as grand marshal because of the vets he seeks to help.
“If shining a little spotlight on me on January first can shine a spotlight on them to help me make a difference in their lives, I am very, very grateful to do that,” said Sinise.
