U.S. Army Pfc. Christopher Schieb, a driver with A Company, 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 1st Infantry Division, Task Force Duke and a native of Palmdale, Calif., drives the buffalo, a vehicle designed to discover improvised explosive devices, during a route clearance patrol in Khowst province, Afghanistan, May 23. The purpose of route clearance is to allow convoys freedom of movement in Khowst province. With only two route clearance companies assigned to the 3 BCT, 1 Inf. Div., the soldiers are constantly busy ensuring the routes are clear of possible dangers.
