GREAT LAKES, Ill. (Jan. 3, 2018) – Recruits are shown the proper way to man a fire hose at the USS Chief firefighting trainer at Recruit Training Command (RTC). Recruits practice firefighting through hands-on learning, which means recruits will ‘train how we fight’. USS Chief’s staff of subject matter experts spend several days training recruits, covering topics ranging from basic damage control equipment to advanced shipboard firefighting techniques. About 30,000 to 40,000 recruits graduate annually from the Navy’s only boot camp. (U.S. Navy photo by Mass Communication Specialist 1st Class Amanda S. Kitchner/Released)
