First Lt. Christopher Cooper received a Combat Action Badge on Contingency Operating Site Echo, Iraq, May 20, by Maj. Gen. Eddy M. Spurgin, commander of U.S. Division-South and the 36th Infantry Division, Texas Army National Guard. Cooper, a soldier with 3rd Squadron, 3rd Armored Cavalry Regiment, was among three soldiers who were awarded the Purple Heart and CAB for wounds sustained under direct enemy fire on Feb. 24.
