POPE ARMY AIRFIELD, N.C. — An Airman on Green Ramp here communicates by radio with fellow Airmen on the ramp as an 82nd Airborne Division Soldier boards a C-130J Hercules Feb. 9, 2018, during a joint Large Package Week and Emergency Deployment Readiness Exercise Feb. 5-11. Both are wearing Mission Oriented Protective Posture gear, testing Ability To Survive and Operate, or ATSO, procedures during the exercise. Airmen in the 43d Air Mobility Operations Group participated in the training as well, providing ground support for visiting Air Force aircrews airlifting 82nd Airborne Division Soldiers and equipment out of Pope Field during the exercise. Throughout the week, Air Mobility Command crews flew 173 missions, transporting more than 3,000 paratroopers and 2.8 million pounds of heavy vehicles, container delivery systems and other cargo. Airmen in the 43d AMOG here serve as the linchpin for America’s Global Response Force, connecting AMC airlift with Brigade Combat Teams of the 82nd ABN, providing operations, maintenance, Aerial Port, fuels, ground equipment and other support.
