SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico, March 24, 2018 - Lidia Aravena, conservator of The Museum of Art in Ponce, is part of the Heritage Emergency and Response Training (HEART) that was held from March 19-24, an intensive one week course that included hands on experience at the Museum of Art of Puerto Rico. The general public, artists and art collectors were invited to participate in a workshop focused on salvage and preservation of works of art and family heirlooms. HENTF and the Smithsonian Cultural Rescue Initiative have been helping cultural leaders of Puerto Rico since November 2017. Together, they have been offering guidance on response and recovery efforts, educating museum, library and archive professionals through a series of workshops. The curriculum was developed by HENTF and has been sponsored by the Smithsonian Institution, in collaboration with the Museum of Art of Puerto Rico. The intention of HENTF is to continue supporting the development of workshops in Puerto Rico and address the needs of librarians and archives professionals. FEMA/Eliezer Hernandez
