    CAMP HANSON, Helmand province, Afghanistan -- Macon, Ga., native Sgt. Stephen M. Smith (left), the armory maintenance chief for 2nd Battalion, 8th Marine Regiment, and Port Neches, Texas, native Lance Cpl. Christian D. Matte, an armorer with 2/8, have worked together for almost a year. Smith’s left leg was amputated below the knee after he survived an Improvised Explosive Device blast in Ramadi, Iraq, in 2006.
