Sergeant Gabriel Dominguez, drill instructor, Receiving Company, Support Battalion, gives the new recruits of Charlie Company, 1st Recruit Training Battalion, a contraband brief at Marine Corps Recruit Depot San Diego, April 30. At this time, the recruits are informed of all of the items they aren’t allowed to have in order to begin training. In the following week of receiving, they will conduct an initial strength test, undergo medical screenings and immunizations and learn the basic rules of recruit training. Annually, more than 17,000 males recruited from the Western Recruiting Region are trained at MCRD San Diego. Charlie Company is scheduled to graduate July 27.
