FORWARD OPERATING BASE JACKSON, Sangin District, Helmand province, Afghanistan - Adm. Mike Mullen, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, hands his challenge coin to Pfc. Auston Ellis, a rifleman of 1st Battalion, 5th Marine Regiment, following his speech and Q-and-A session at Forward Operating Base Jackson, Sangin, Afghanistan, July 30. Mullen came to visit the battalion's battle space and speak of the progress made over the course of 1/5's deployment. “You represent the best of the best and I am grateful for that,” said Mullen. “None of us can do that alone. You have great support at home and that is always crucial as well.” Mullen talked about the reliance on support to encourage the Marines of 1/5 as they finish up their last two months in Sangin and continue to make great progress one day at a time.
