An Army Corps of Engineers contractor collects debris containing asbestos here July 29. The debris is wrapped in the polyethylene
sheets lining the truck bed and sealed air-tight with glue and tape before disposal at a special waste landfill in Arcadia, Kan. The EF-5 tornado which
swept through the city here May 22 damaged or destroyed about 8,000
buildings, including several older homes. According to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, asbestos was used in many types of home building products and insulation materials used in homes until the 1970s.
