A pair of U.S. F-15 fighters take up an escort position for a simulated hijacked airliner flying toward U.S. airspace during the second day of flying for Exercise Vigilant Eagle, Aug. 9, 2011. The fighters took over the escort from a pair of Russian SU-27 fighters once the airliner, a Russian Federation Air Force jet, left Russian airspace and entered U.S. airspace. F-15 Eagles and SU-27 fighters escorted the aircraft while E-3 and A-50 airborne warning and control aircraft monitored them.
