Pfc. Cristian Ruiz, administrative clerk, Regimental Combat Team 5, and his girlfriend, Susie Partida, spend a quiet moment together as Marines around them prepare to leave for a year-long deployment to Afghanistan, Aug. 13. The more than 200 Marines who make up the headquarters element of RCT 5 departed Camp Pendleton for Afghanistan to continue the work of the currently deployed Marines of Regimental Combat Team 1.
