KHOWST PROVINCE, Afghanistan – U.S. Army Pfc. Zachary William Charles Short, a combat medic from Bend, Ore., with Battery A, 1st Battalion, 6th Artillery Regiment, 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 1st Infantry Division, Task Force Duke, practices his guitar in the Combat Outpost Herrera motor pool Aug. 14. Short, under the name Zac Charles, wrote and recorded several country songs, including “Until I Get Home,” which at one time was the third most requested country song in Elizabethton, Ky.
