FORWARD OPERATING BASE JACKSON, Helmand province, Afghanistan - Marines place identification tags on the battlefield memorials during a memorial ceremony for three fallen heroes of Explosive Ordnance Company, 8th Engineer Support Battalion and 1st Battalion, 5th Marine Regiment at Forward Operating Base Jackson, Aug. 16. Sgt. Daniel J. Patron, an explosive ordnance disposal technician, was killed in action while interrogating an improvised explosive device during combat operations in Sangin, Afghanistan, Aug 6. Patron, an EOD technician, served in Iraq and volunteered to extend his enlistment to support the Marines of 1/5. The Ohio native was remembered by fellow Marines for his dedication as a technician, his positive attitude and his contagious smile. (Photo by Cpl. Logan W. Pierce)
