NEWPORT, R.I. (June 12, 2018) Secretary of the Navy Richard V. Spencer observes training in the Littoral Combat Ship (LCS) simulator during a visit to Surface Warfare Officers School (SWOS) Command. Spencer visited SWOS to witness firsthand the capabilities of the school, listen to feedback from Sailors and discuss the future of the Navy. Headquartered in Newport, Rhode Island and overseeing nine learning sites worldwide, SWOS readies sea-bound Sailors to serve on surface combatants as officers, enlisted engineers, and enlisted navigational professionals to fulfill the Navy's mission to maintain global maritime superiority.
