Lance Cpl. David Richvalsky, a machine gunner for 1st Platoon, Company B, 1st Battalion, 5th Marine Regiment, tells a few jokes while taking a knee to stabilize designated marksman Lance Cpl. Brian Shearer’s rifle on a security patrol, Aug. 5. “If I had known you were going to take all day, I would’ve worn my need pads man,” Richvalsky teased his friend. The Marines of 1st Platoon lead the battalion in casualties but continue to remain focused on their mission and stay positive through humor. Richvalsky is from Waialua, Hawaii, and is a 2010 graduate of Waialua High School.
