The 1st Cavalry Division's acoustic rock band, Mother of All Bands, performs at the flight line dining facility for the soldiers of the 1st Air Cavalry Brigade here, Sept. 3. From the left, the band members are Spc. Chris Rettig of Defiance, Ohio, as lead vocalist, Sgt. Mike Purcell of San Antonio, as percussionist, and Sgt. Jason Smelser of Killeen, Texas, as lead guitarist. MOAB visited Camp Marmal for three days, playing at various venues, and performing a wide variety of cover songs selected from the last five decades of rock 'n' roll. With all of their equipment battery-powered, MOAB's size and capabilities make it much easier for them to travel throughout the Afghan theater to play music for the troops than it would be for the entire 1st CD Band.
