180621-N-XP203-1007 PACIFIC OCEAN (June 21, 2018) – Maintainers from Air Test and Evaluation Squadron 1 (VX-1) inspect the flight deck of the Independence variant littoral combat ship USS Coronado (LCS 4) for foreign object and debris in preparation to launch an MQ-8C Fire Scout for underway testing. The MQ-8C Fire Scout is the Navy’s newest unmanned helicopter and has increased speed, a higher ceiling, over twice the fuel endurance, and an improved payload capacity compared to earlier versions. LCS is a high-speed, agile, shallow draft, mission-focused surface combatant designed for operations in the littoral environment, yet fully capable of open ocean operations. As part of the surface fleet, LCS has the ability to counter and outpace evolving threats independently or within a network of surface combatants. (U.S. Navy photo by Ens. Jalen Robinson/RELEASED)
