180621-N-XP203-1014 PACIFIC OCEAN (June 21, 2018) – Sailors aboard the Independence variant littoral combat ship USS Coronado (LCS 4) monitor flight operations from the helicopter control tower as maintainers prepare to launch the MQ-8C Fire Scout, the Navy’s newest unmanned helicopter. LCS is a high-speed, agile, shallow draft, mission-focused surface combatant designed for operations in the littoral environment, yet fully capable of open ocean operations. As part of the surface fleet, LCS has the ability to counter and outpace evolving threats independently or within a network of surface combatants. (U.S. Navy photo by Ens. Jalen Robinson/RELEASED)
