Dr. Michael Yaffe, vice president, Middle East and Africa Center, United States Institute of Peace, educates the audience on the role of a coalition before the breakout of large-scale conflicts in fragile states at the 2018 Senior Strategy Session – Arabian Peninsula / Levant in Arlington, Va, July 11, 2018. Yaffe, who was previously a foreign affairs officer at the U.S. State Department concentrating on Middle East peace negotiations, regional security, and nonproliferation, emphasized the principle of working by, with, and through our regional partners to create an enduring effect on stability operations and achieve long-term results. Over the four-day conference, speakers and participants will engage in discussions centering on the complexities and lessons learned from Joint, Interagency, Intergovernmental and Multinational (JIIM) efforts during ongoing theater campaigns that have global implications.
