VICENZA, Italy -- U.S. Army Paratrooper Capt. Michael Spalla, a Chaplain assigned to the 173rd Brigade Support Battalion and 2nd Battalion (Airborne), 503rd Infantry Regiment "The Rock", 173rd Airborne Brigade, delivers the invocation prior to the start of the Running of the Herd relay race on July 17th, 2018. The Running of the Herd is an annual 173rd Airborne Brigade relay race honoring fallen Paratroopers. Competitors must complete as many laps as possible around Caserma Del Din's 2.3 mile perimeter road before time runs out. The 173rd Airborne Brigade is the U.S. Army’s Contingency Response Force in Europe, providing rapidly deploying forces to the U.S. Army Europe, Africa and Central Command Areas of Responsibility within 18 hours.
