VICENZA, Italy -- U.S. Army Paratrooper Capt. Aaron Waller, chief of operations assigned to Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 173rd Airborne Brigade, briefs the rules for the Running of the Herd relay race on July 17th, 2018. The Running of the Herd is an annual 173rd Airborne Brigade relay race honoring fallen Paratroopers. Competitors must complete as many laps as possible around Caserma Del Din's 2.3 mile perimeter road before time runs out. The 173rd Airborne Brigade is the U.S. Army’s Contingency Response Force in Europe, providing rapidly deploying forces to the U.S. Army Europe, Africa and Central Command Areas of Responsibility within 18 hours.
