180728-N-DM338-0012 KAHUKU TRAINING FACILITY, Hawaii (July 18, 2018) Lt. j.g. Matthew Maynard applies makeup to Staff Sgt. John Lynch, U.S. Air Force survival, evasion, resistance, escape (SERE) specialist, to simulate injuries sustained in captivity during a joint personnel recovery exercise at Kahuku training facility during the Rim of the Pacific (RIMPAC) exercise, July 18. Lynch and other SERE specialists will be airlifted to USS Carl Vinson (CVN 70) to train Navy personnel in reintegration techniques of recovered civilian and military forces. Twenty-five nations, 46 ships, five submarines, and about 200 aircraft and 25,000 personnel are participating in RIMPAC from June 27 to Aug. 2 in and around the Hawaiian Islands and Southern California. The world’s largest international maritime exercise, RIMPAC provides a unique training opportunity while fostering and sustaining cooperative relationships among participants critical to ensuring the safety of sea lanes and security of the world’s oceans.
