Sgt. David Tinkorang, a culinary specialist assigned to Company D., 141st Military Intelligence Battalion, 300th Military Intelligence Brigade (Linguist), stands with his uncle, Ghanaian Army Col. Jackson Asem, at the entrance to the Kofi Annan International Peacekeeping Training Centre, July 17, 2018, in Accra, Ghana. Tinkorang and Asem reunited for the first time in over 20 years while Tinkorang supported the Command Post Exercise (CPX) portion of United Accord 2018. Asem is an instructor at the Ghana Armed Forces Command and Staff College, and Tinkorang supported United Accord 2018 by translating for Akan-speaking Ghanaian Soldiers and French-speaking African service members. United Accord 2018 is a Ghana Armed Forces and U.S. Army Africa hosted exercise consisting of four combined, joint components: a CPX, field training exercise, Jungle Warfare School and medical readiness training exercise (MEDRETE). The CPX scenario was designed to increase the United Nations Multidimensional Integrated Stabilization Mission in Mali's (MINUSMA) capacity to plan, deploy, sustain and redeploy a combined joint task force in support of UN and African Union-mandated peacekeeping operations.
