U.S. Air Force Col. Christopher J. Niemi receives the Legion of Merit award at the 3rd Wing change of command at Hangar 1 on Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson, Alaska, Aug. 6, 2018. The ceremony was officiated by Air Force Lt. Gen. Kenneth S. Wilsbach, commander of Alaskan North American Aerospace Defense Command Region, North American Aerospace Defense Command; Commander, Alaskan Command, U.S. Northern Command; Commander, Eleventh Air Force, Pacific Air Forces. Arctic warriors, civic leaders from surrounding communities, family and friends were present for the ceremony and to bid farewell to Col. Niemi and to welcome Col.
