Lyons, of Yonkers, New York, a student at University of San Diego, listens to feedback from Lt. John Tanalega, of Las Vegas, Nevada, an instructor at Surface Warfare Officers School (SWOS), during the 2018 NROTC National Shiphandler of the Year competition. The three-day event at SWOS uses the Naval Seamanship and Shiphandling Conning Officer Virtual Environment (COVE) simulators for virtual reality conning and ship driving scenarios.
