Sometimes the assistance is not mechanical, it is medical as in this case. Air Force Cycling Team (AFCT) members stopped for a rider who was sitting on the side of the road and when asked if he needed help he said yes. Turns out he was in heat stress and overheating. While talking to him, a doctor from the Iowa Children’s Hospital, Julia Shelton and her husband John, stopped to provide care as well. AFCT members (L-R) Kim Smathers, Larry Gallo, Andrew Patterson, Patty Carazo-Danner. The AFCT has been in existence for the past 24 years with its mission for Registers Annual Great Bicycle Ride Across Iowa (RAGBRAI) evolving into the “Guardian Angels of The Roads”.
