Alaska Army Guardsman Lt Col. Bryan Perez assists with collecting ropes after helping raise a Veterans Totem Pole during a ceremony in the city of Klawock on Prince of Wales Island, Aug. 18, 2018. Members of the Alaska Air and Army National Guard and Alaska State Defense Force participated in a three-day celebratory event honoring Alaska’s veterans. The service members visited with local community members, took part in the traditional song and dance, and provided a color guard, two HMMWVs and participants to help carry the 37-foot totem pole to its resting place in the newly constructed Veterans Totem Park against the shoreline of the Klawock Inlet.
