U.S. Air Force Lt. Gen. Joseph T. Guastella Jr., Commander of U.S. Air Forces Central Command (AFCENT), speaks to attendees at a change of command ceremony at Al Udeid Air Base, Qatar, Aug. 30, 2018. Guastella is a command pilot and has accumulated more than 4,000 flying hours, including 1,000 combat hours in the F-16C/D and the A-10C. AFCENT is headquarters at Shaw Air Force Base, South Carolina, and has a forward headquarters at Al Udeid Air Base Qatar. As the air component of U.S. Central Command, AFCENT is responsible for air operations, either unilaterally or in concert with coalition partners, and for developing contingency plans in support of national objectives for CENTCOM’s 20-nation AOR in Southwest Asia.
