Retired Lt. Col. Roy Lawrence and his wife, Sandy, discuss the information provided at a booth during the Military Retiree Appreciation Day at Miller's Landing on marine Corps Air Station Cherry Point, N.C., Oct. 1. The Lawrences, who had been retired for about 10 hours, said the transition into retired life is a scary time because it's something they have never experienced before. However, support organizations provide retirees with information concerning medical benefits, education benefits and pay making the transition easier because they don't have to be in the dark about their situation.
