Karen Durham-Aguilera, executive director of Army National Military Cemeteries, speaks during the Arlington National Cemetery’s Millennium Project event September 6, 2018, at the Arlington National Cemetery. The Millennium Project includes 27 acres of land transferred from the National Park Service and Fort Myer that were redeveloped by the Army Corps of Engineers to optimize interment space and support future operations. The new area provides 27,282 interment spaces above and below ground, columbarium courts and pre-placed concrete grave liners that decrease the displacement of soil during burials.
