U.S. soldiers with the 3rd Infantry Regiment transfer the remains of two fallen Union soldiers to a burial site with horse-drawn caissons in the Arlington National Cemetery in Arlington, Va., Sept. 6, 2018. The procession was part of the cemetery’s Millennium Project, which began in the 1990’s to optimize and redevelop more than 27 acres of land. The new developments provide 27,282 interment spaces above and below ground, columbarium courts and pre-placed concrete grave liners that decrease the displacement of soil during burials.
