Sergeant Major Ernest Hoopii, Regimental Combat Team 5 sergeant major, addresses the sailors and Marines during the 236th Navy Birthday celebration here, Oct. 14. Hoopii was the guest of honor for the event. The Navy traces its origins to the Continental Navy, established by the Continental Congress on Oct. 13, 1775. In 1972, Adm. Elmo Zumwalt, Chief of Naval Operations, authorized recognition of that day as the Navy's birthday.
