U.S. Marine Corps Lt. Gen. Eric M. Smith, left, commanding general of III Marine Expeditionary Force (MEF), speaks with Lance Cpl. Aetos Taiyang, center, and Lance Cpl. Kyle Dye, postal clerks with Headquarters and Headquarters Squadron, after presenting them with Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medals at Marine Corps Air Station (MCAS) Iwakuni, Japan, Sept. 18, 2018. Taiyang and Dye were awarded the medals for their efforts in creating a postal notification system that streamlines the way air station residents receive mail. Smith visited MCAS Iwakuni for the first time as the III MEF commanding general. The site visit involved a tour of bachelor enlisted quarters, lunch with non-commissioned officers and junior Marines and visits to other various sites throughout the air station.
