Captain Curt Seth, Chief of Staff with Commander, Carrier Strike Group Twelve (CCSG-12), along with the youngest enlisted sailor in the room, prepares to receive the sword to cut a birthday cake to commemorate the US Navy’s 243rd Birthday. The cake was cut following a historical presentation regarding the US Navy’s history by Captain Lee Duckworth, USN, Retired. Duckworth was Naval Station Norfolk’s 47th Commanding Officer. He previously served as the Executive Officer of the USS Tripoli (LPH-10) during the first Gulf War, and was previously the Education Director at the Hampton Roads Naval Museum. He remains active in the community, and continues to volunteer. The presentation was coordinated by the Naval Station Norfolk’s First Class Petty Officers Association.
