181010-N-IY469-011 - Tamara Edwards, acting, Industrial Hygiene Department head
During this time, Tamara Edwards was a superior leader, manager and organizer as she worked to address a 25 percent manning deficit (16 of 64 positions vacant). She partnered with the Bureau of Medicine and Surgery and the Human Resources Office to establish direct hire authority, and she worked with Old Dominion University to organize and conduct an industrial hygiene job fair to recruit for these vacant positions. These efforts resulted in the identification of 40 qualified candidates, which will have a huge impact on readiness and worker safety at the more than 300 operational commands that Naval Medical Center Portsmouth’s Industrial Hygiene Department is responsible for throughout Hampton Roads. Edwards also worked closely with line commanders at NAS Oceana, Dam Neck Annex and Naval Station Norfolk to address various safety and health concerns. Her leadership and professional expertise as a certified industrial hygienist has consistently provided commanders with sound guidance and recommendations to ensure the safety and health of all occupants.
