Warships Underway for First East Coast Cruiser-Destroyer SWATT Exercise

ATLANTIC OCEAN (Nov. 6, 2018) Ens. Taylor Brunstad and Lt. j. g. Brittany Leonard make reports to the ship’s helmsman during an Integrated Maritime Portable Acoustic Sound Scoring (IMPASS) system evolution aboard the Arleigh Burke-class guided-missile destroyer USS Nitze (DDG 94). IMPASS certification recognizes a ship’s ability to support ground forces by accurately firing a MK-45 5-inch/54-caliber gun. USS Abraham Lincoln (CVN 72) carrier strike group (CSG) cruiser-destroyer (CRUDES) units participate in the first East Coast CRUDES Surface Warfare Advanced Tactical Training (SWATT). SWATT is led by the Naval Surface and Mine Warfighting Development Center (SMWDC) and is designed to increase warfighting proficiency, lethality and interoperability of participating units.
