A civilian Mariner aboard the decommissioned Spruance-class destroyer self defense test ship USS Paul F. Foster lowers a tending line used to guide a fuel hose to be connected to the fuel pier at Naval Base Point Loma. Foster, homeported at Port Hueneme, arrived at Point Loma to receive 20 thousand gallons of a biofuel diesel mixture, the largest amount to ever be used in a United States ship. This event is one of many to come as part of the Secretary of the Navy Ray Mabus’ plan toward a more energy efficient Navy and the sailing of “The Great Green Fleet” by 2012.
