Civilian mariner Jerry Johnson, first engineer aboard the decommissioned Spruance-class destroyer self defense test ship USS Paul F. Foster, inspects a fuel sample of biofuel from a fuel tanker truck before it begins fueling Foster on the fuel pier at Naval Base Point Loma. Foster, homeported at Port Hueneme, arrived at Point Loma to receive 20 thousand gallons of a biofuel diesel mixture, the largest amount to ever be used in a United States ship. This event is one of many to come as part of the Secretary of the Navy Ray Mabus’ plan toward a more energy efficient Navy and the sailing of “The Great Green Fleet” by 2012.
