Sgt. Paul Evans, Marine Forces Europe Embarkation chief, works with Einar Tromsdal, the Tromsdal Cave inspector, to properly load 110 space heaters on board a tractor trailer, Nov. 13. Marines with MFE and Norwegian soldiers with the Marine Corps Prepositioning Program in Norway, would later load more than 28,000 pounds, comprised of 110 cold weather tents, space heaters and fuel cans to be flown to Erzurum, Turkey, to help provide shelter and warmth to more than 1,000 Turkish citizens left homeless by recent earthquakes. “When there is a catastrophe, we will do whatever it takes to help,” said Tromsdal, who has been running the cave since the inception of the MCPP-N program in 1988.
