James Phillips, former commanding officer of the guided-missile cruiser USS Vella Gulf (CG 72), shares a story with other former commanding officers and Capt. Robert Thompson, the current commanding officer of the Vella Gulf, while touring the vessel to commemorate 25 years since the ship’s commissioning.
