U.S. Army Corps of Engineers' contractors pre-position pipeline segments (lower right) as part of beach renourishment operations underway along Myrtle Beach, S.C., Sept. 22, 2018, following Hurricane Florence. This project is underway to help rehabilitate shorelines and mitigate the risk of storm-related damage to coastal communities and infrastructure by using hopper dredge vessels to pump sand, via a ship-to-shore pipeline system, from off-shore areas to the beach. This project is part of rehabilitation efforts from previous hurricanes, but was put on hold due to Florence. Work has since resumed now that dredging craft, moved to safe harbor during the storm, have returned to continue operations.
