CHITOSE, Japan -- U.S. Ambassador to Japan William Hagerty (left) and Gen. Robert B. Yama Sakura is an annual bilateral command post exercise involving the U.S. Military and the Japan Self-Defense Force with the purpose of enhancing U.S. and Japanese combat readiness and interoperability, strengthening bilateral relationships, and demonstrating U.S. resolve to support the security interests of allies and partners in the Indo-Asia-Pacific region. Ambassador Hagerty took time during the visit to meet with and recognize U.S. service members and Japanese military personnel participating in the exercise, while reaffirming commitment to the U.S.-Japan Alliance and continued peace and stability in the region.
