Life for members of the 477th Bombardment Group would much improve with the leadership of then Col. Benjamin Davis. A West Point graduate and one of the first Tuskegee Airman to earn his flight wings, Davis immediately revamped the leadership system that wouldn't allow blacks to hold leadership positions or promote them.
