U.S. Marines with subordinate commands under III Marine Expeditionary Force conduct Special Patrol Insertion and Extraction from the UH-1Y Venom during SPIE and Helicopter Rope Suspension Technique training on Camp Hansen, Okinawa, Japan, Dec. 18, 2018. SPIE rigging, fast roping, and rappelling allow Marines to enter and exit landing zones that are too dangerous for helicopters to safely land on. SPIE and HRST training teach Marines proper knots and rappelling techniques, and builds confidence in maneuvering from aircraft to ground. (U.S. Marine Corps photo by Lance Cpl. Kenny Nunez)
