A Marine with III Marine Expeditionary Force fast ropes from an MV-22B Osprey tilt-rotor aircraft during Special Patrol Insertion and Extraction, and Helicopter Rope Suspension Technique training on Camp Hansen, Okinawa, Japan, Dec. 18, 2018. SPIE rigging, fast roping, and rappelling allow Marines to enter and exit landing zones that are too dangerous for helicopters to safely land on. SPIE and HRST training teach Marines proper knots and rappelling techniques, as well as builds confidence in maneuvering from aircraft to ground. (U.S. Marine Corps photo by Lance Cpl. Kenny Nunez)
