Sunburst Youth Challenge Academy Cadet Nathalie Aguirre fist bumps with California State Military Reserve Brig. Gen. James Gabrielli, commander of the California Military Department's Youth and Community Programs Task Force, after receiving her high school diploma and certificate of phase completion, Dec. 7, 2018, during the academy's graduation ceremony in Los Alamitos, California. More than 180 cadets completed the academy's five and a half month residential phase, and 34 cadets -- including Aguirre -- also earned their high school diplomas. Sunburst, which is located at Joint Forces Training Base, Los Alamitos, is one of three National Guard Youth Challenge programs facilitated by the California Military Department, and is the only Challenge campus in Southern California.
